States and territories nominate skilled migrants for subclass 190 (permanent) and subclass 491 (regional provisional) against a nomination allocation set by the Australian Government. A nomination allocation is the number of *new primary applicants* a jurisdiction may nominate in a program year. Home Affairs is explicit that this is not the same as the number of visas granted that year.
As of 20 September 2026, the Department’s allocations page still only lists **2025–26** numbers. Those were set on 4 November 2025 at **20,350** nominations nationally (12,850 for subclass 190 and 7,500 for subclass 491). The published split is:
- •ACT — 800 (190) / 800 (491)
- •NSW — 2,100 / 1,500
- •NT — 850 / 800
- •Queensland — 1,850 / 750
- •South Australia — 1,350 / 900
- •Tasmania — 1,200 / 650
- •Victoria — 2,700 / 700
- •Western Australia — 2,000 / 1,400
**2026–27 allocations are not on that page yet.** Until Home Affairs publishes them, do not treat secondary blogs as a substitute.
What official state pages currently say:
- •**New South Wales** — both the subclass 190 and subclass 491 nomination programs are closed for the current program year because available places have been fully allocated. Applications already submitted continue to be assessed once new places are allocated. NSW is reviewing settings and eligibility for the next program year and says updated information will be published on its site in due course. NSW nomination remains invitation-only: you cannot apply directly.
- •**Queensland** — Registrations of Interest for the 2025–26 State Nominated Migration Program are closed after nomination places were filled. Migration Queensland is awaiting Australian Government advice on future program settings, including nomination allocations. Invited applicants who have already submitted are told they need take no further action. Opening dates and 2026–27 eligibility will be published on the Migration Queensland website.
- •**Tasmania** — a 13 March 2026 program update said invitation numbers were being reduced in the final quarter of 2025–26 because most of the year’s allocation had been used, and that further updates would follow once the Australian Government advised the size of the 2026–27 allocation. Subclass 190 invitations were temporarily paused for Registrations of Interest that do not attract a Gold pass.
Other jurisdictions (Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, ACT, Northern Territory) run their own portals. Check those pages and the Home Affairs allocations table rather than assuming they share NSW or Queensland’s closed status.
